More “first plants” are lost through over watering than by any mishap. But don’t forget they do need some water. But there are some exceptions. For instance, Miltoniopsis (formerly Miltonia) doesn't like to become bone dry. So there's more to be learned about individual plants.
Can I plant it right in my garden?
Don’t! There are some varieties that may grow in a rich organic soil, but not the ones you are apt to find for sale.
